Is the wrap being reviewed a reweave of another original release? If so please tell which version you have?
This is Fidella’s Wrap Conversion Mei Tai (WCMT). It is made using their 100% organic cotton wraps and comes in various patterns.
Does it have cush?
Yes! This Fly Tai is fluffy and notably soft. Can’t-stop-petting-baby’s-bum soft!
The cush on the shoulders is INCREDIBLE, due to two factors. One: the 3 inch shoulder straps are padded with a hefty amount of 100% Polyester and wrapped in the oh-so-smooshy softness of Fidella’s organic cotton wraps. And two: The straps are sewn in a way where you can pull out an additional 8-9 inches of fabric from underneath the strap to cup your shoulders and distribute weight more evenly.
How much diagonal stretch does the wrap have?
It’s actually quite springy!
How supportive did you find it in a single layer carry?
My first time wearing the Fly Tai I had no idea what I was doing! I had never worn a WCMT before. I put my toddler up on my back as he was having a meltdown in Target, and wrapped just as I normally do when we wear our BabyHawk Mei Tai. Thinking back on it, I suppose this was as close to a “single layer carry” as I could get with a WCMT. Basically the straps were brought under my armpits, crossed at the bum (without being spread out) and brought to tie in front. And I have to be honest with you, it really was not all that comfortable. Cameron thrashed and screamed and, well, we left.
After the Target fiasco I set the Fly Tai aside for awhile. I was a bit discouraged. Until one day I saw a post on BWI of someone wearing a Fly Tai with both straps spread out wide across baby’s bum and back. Light bulb! Seriously does it get any blonder than me? Once I realized that the PURPOSE of WCMT straps are to be SPREAD OUT to distribute and support more weight, very much like a double layer carry, I just fell in love with the Fly Tai. I mean head over heals in friggen love with this thing!
Can you compare this wrap to another wrap already on the market?
Who do you think this wrap would best be geared to?
If all babywearers were only allowed to have one single carrier (gasp!) this would be the carrier that everyone would choose. The adjustable panel makes it awesome for both babies and toddlers. I was able to cinch the panel small enough to fit Cameron’s tiny Corelle babydoll and it even supported my friend’s preschooler when she got too tired at the fireworks. What carrier do you know that can do that? Another plus for tiny babies is the sleep hood that can either be used as a cover or rolled up and used as head support. The ease of wrapping makes it ideal for new babywearers or people who love the feel of wraps but may be too intimidated to learn to use them. They even made the waist straps rounded and the shoulder straps squared at the ends to easily differentiate when wrapping. Fidella thought of everything! Even advanced babywearers will appreciate this impeccable craftsmanship and comfort of wear.
*Note: When I wore Cameron’s babydoll (to see how it cinched) I did notice that when you cinch the carrier to its smallest position, there is quite a bit of puckering of extra fabric in the panel. This was literally the ONLY downfall I have found with this carrier in my 6 weeks of use. I have a hard time even calling it a downfall, considering the fact that Cameron’s babydoll is probably the size of a preemie. Furthermore, the puckering is cosmetic and does not hinder integrity of the carrier. It was easily covered up when spreading out the wrap straps. Despite this, I wanted to mention it.
Would you recommend this wrap to a friend? Why? What did you love about it?
I would absolutely recommend this wrap to a friend. Imagine the love child between your favorite kitten-belly-soft wrap and your quickest, most supportive ssc. That is the Fly Tai. It is beyond soft, comfortable and so, so easy to throw on and off and into your bag. Seriously, guys, this is all you need. (Don’t tell our husbands!)
Please tell us a little more about yourself:
