Meet the Marsupial Mamas Tester Crew

Meet our 2016 Tester Crew for Marsupial Mamas, LLC

Shannon:

Hello! My name is Shannon and I am a New England based wrapper (and all around babywearer) that loves to write and try out different wraps.  My husband and I have three kids and three cats, just to keep things interesting! I have seen a lot of wraps come through my home as I am a serial churner and have been wrapping since September 2014.We get at least one “ups” every day here but typically more than that.  My little guy loves to go up in the afternoon after nap time and whenever we go out and about in the world. For technical stuff, my base is a size 5.5, being between bases is just, awesome.  I have used wraps anywhere from a size 2 to a size 7, haven’t ventured in to 8 territory yet!  My wrapee was born in early September 2014 and is 25 pounds and very tall, just like his Dada and big brother. That’s a little bit about me! I hope you enjoy my reviews and I would love to have your input/comments if you have used a wrap I have reviewed! I enjoy getting opinions from others that have used what I have.

Catherine:

Hi, I'm Catherine, a writer and babywearing mama who lives on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia -- I'm constantly searching for the perfect beach wrap. I love wrapping my squish so I can run around after my kindergartner (I'm getting pretty good at bribing the kindergartner to go up, too). I'm SSC-curious, but woven wraps will always be my first love. My base size is a 6, shorty wraps are my favorite, and I can't resist a good pirate carry. I'm on a personal mission to try as many wraps as possible before my baby gets too big to wear (or before he heads off to college, whichever comes first).

Micah:

My name is Micah. I'm a 28 year old, living in Sunny Southern California. I'm a mom of four. Khiley (8), Kadence (3), Jakobi (22 months) & Joshua (2 months.) I have been wearing since Kadence was born, starting out as a convince then becoming a necessity with 3 under 3! I started out with SSCs but quickly fell in love with wrapping. I use woven wraps most often for the versatility but, I still love a good SSC! I wear all three of the younger kids, though Kadence (3 year old) is starting to up less as she gets older and more independent. Tandem wearing with the boys at least once a day makes up for it though. We wear at home and when we are out. You can usually find us on the beach, at the park, hanging out at a coffee shop or wandering the isles of Target. When we have extra time, we drive up the mountains for a scenery change. I usually have a book (or 4) in my bag, with notebooks and pens galore just in case I get a chance to take a quick break. I pretty much always have a phone or camera in my hand because I love capturing those perfectly imperfect moments of life.

You can read more from Micah on her blog "Everthing it is & everything it's not." here!!!

Krystal:

Hi, I Krystal Flowers a SAHM of 3 beautiful children. I have a 5 year old son, a 23 month old daughter, and a 3 month old son. I am from rural Alabama and everything that I know about babywearing, I have learned online through groups or YouTube videos. I started babywearing when my first son was born and used pouch slings. I moved on to SSC carriers with my daughter's arrival and just started wrapping 4 months ago. I fell hard down the rabbit hole and went from zero woven wraps to 10 in 2 months. I enjoy tandem wearing my 2 little ones when we are out. It really makes our outings so much more peaceful and I love being able to open my own doors because my hands are free. My passions are breastfeeding, babywearing, cloth diapers, and car seat safety. My hobbies include hiking, writing, painting, cooking, interior design, and crafting. I love helping new moms get acquainted with baby gear and teaching what I have learned with trial and error. I have been lucky enough to have a husband that is on board with all of my parenting choices and he even sprays the dirty cloth diapers! I am looking forward to many adventures raising my flower babies.

How to fix a Broken Thread in your woven wrap.

How to fix a broken thread in your woven wrap: If you have been following along with our series of  "How to care for your woven wrap" you will see that we are working our way down the list of common issues with woven wraps and the care for them. I hope that these have helped you along your way, and in your ownership of a woven wrap. This blog post will show you how to fix that dreaded and all too common broken thread, that so many fear. Please do not fear a broken thread!  One broken thread (even two or three) will not hurt you, your baby or the safety of the wrap. I will tell you later what would be a problem with broken threads in a woven wrap and what to look for. Ok, let's get started. First, grab your woven wrap and let's figure out what type of broken thread you're dealing with. Do you have two threads visible? If so, follow the first set of directions. This is a full broken thread and should be tied back together with one another. These threads

How to make your woven wrap soft and floppy, otherwise known as breaking it in

You just received your wrap, but it's not as soft, floppy and cuddly as you were hoping for? Don't despair!  We'll help you get that wrap buttery soft and floppy! Okay, how do you get it to change? There are several tried and true methods, but the simple answer....break down the fibers by moving them.   Friction against them will wear them down. When you first get your wrap, give it a wash and dry  (following the washing instructions per blend)  This step will dramatically change the wrap right away and you'll notice that it's not as stiff. Give it a steam iron, or two or three (depending on the fiber) Steam ironing will break the fibers down quickly.  I've also noticed that when I steam iron it width wise it helps more then when I steam iron it moving the iron from side to side. That may just be my little quirk of mine though... Pull it through sling rings,if you have them.   If not create a loop and pull the rest of

How to fix a pull in your woven wrap

How to fix a pull in a woven wrap      If you are just joining us. Welcome!!! Welcome to the best blog you will ever read, (hehe). We are currently doing a blog series called "How to care and fix that woven wrap of yours".  The first post was an introduction and gave you the run down on how to care for your woven wrap . From washing to ironing.      Our second post in this series was focused on "How to fix Thread Shifting" in a woven wrap. In that post I walked you thru both in photos and text how to treat and fix thread shifting.       Today we are going to focus on how to fix a pull in a woven wrap. A pull in a woven wrap is very common and to be honest so common it would be rare for someone not to have ever had one or get one during their babywearing journey. Pulls can very easily happen, anything from a broken nail to just taking it out of the package and it catching on just the right thing. Fixing a pull is a very tedious task and we are setting u
